“After leaving back office operations for the New York Mets, I became a Partner in a printing business. We were full service commercial printers during a time when demand for printing services was growing. As technology developed during the 1990’s, I saw that the printing industry had seen its best days, and was not a rapid growth industry for the future. It was at that time that I left commercial printing and founded Digital Storage Solutions. Digital Storage Solutions was a startup, created as an outsourced provider of high volume document scanning and imaging services.
This was a critical decision for me, and one that left no room for error. The new venture would require a significant investment of time and capital, and I had to make sure that the industry would provide substantial opportunity for growth. I needed to create a solid business plan that would clearly and efficiently lay out the steps required to be successful. The Schatten Group guided me through the entire process, developing the plan, assigning roles and responsibilities, and holding me accountable every step of the way.
As additional information and industry trends emerged, The Schatten Group was essential in assisting me make, and execute the strategic decisions necessary to gain and retain market share. I have always felt that I had a Partner that was completely focused on my success. After four years operating Digital Storage Solutions, an opportunity developed to merge with Micro Network Systems, an integrator of scanning and image hardware and software. The opportunity was developed in line with our business plan, and I brought in The Schatten Group to do due diligence, and ultimately close the merger of the two companies.
The result of the merger necessitated a name change to Shoreline Records Management, where after two additional years of growth, we decided to add to our service offering by opening a secure, Records Storage Warehouse to provide physical record storage to prospects that did not require high volume scanning and imaging. The Records Management business was and still is experiencing significant consolidation, as large companies continue to purchase smaller companies in an aggressive roll up strategy. The Schatten Group assisted us in preparing a detailed market analysis, and based on that analysis, it was determined that we should sell the Records Storage division of the business. The Schatten Group handled the transaction in its entirety. In 2011, we also decided to sell the hardware and software divisions and The Schatten Group handled those transactions from beginning to end.
Today, with a singular focus on document scanning and imaging services along with a strategic re-entry into the records management business, Shoreline has achieved 52% revenue growth over the last three years.
